Bonding with a resuce can be difficult not knowing what they may have been through. This read is helpful.
Having shared my home with 30 rescued dogs over the past 43 years, I agree with the information given in this book. Because the book is easy to read and not too technical, I think it would be a good book for beginning adopters.
This book is full of wonderful ideas and tips for choosing and introducing a new dog into your life. The author focuses on getting a rescue dog but her tips certainly can be applied to any dog. I like her approach to dog training in that it focuses on positive reinforcement and never punishment. Having recently raised a puppy to the age of 2, my memories are still fresh of potty training her, socializing her and taker her to puppy classes.
Reading this book is a wonderful way to prepare for adding a new, or additional dog to your life.
This is a fantastic book that offers a ton of reliable resources! The author does a wonderful job at explaining everything you need to know about adopting a dog. If you follow these exact steps, you'll become a better pet owner with a better understanding of your pet. I especially liked how she outlined the entire process things to know before adoption, bringing the pet home, what to expect, transitioning, and much more! Such a great read for all pet owners! Highly recommended!
I read this just as we were preparing our home for our new rescue dog. There was much thought put into our decision but each dog is different and brings with it the challenges of its former life. I found this book to be very helpful as I navigated the nuances of a new dog. He has a forever home with us and I hope to bring out the best in him. The therapy techniques mentioned here are worth investigating for me. I want my dog to feel secure yet still appropriately protect our family. I was able to learn a lot from this book.
Bringing any new dog into your family can pose challenges, and there are also challenges unique to adopting a rescue dog. Although it is written especially for those who have chosen (or been chosen by) a rescue, this book covers about any issue you may encounter with your new canine family member.
