Good Too Good S Walden Robin Ludwig 9781490971360 Books Reviews

I started reading this book due to a recommendation given to me since I had enjoyed Colleen Hoover's "Slammed". Sadly, the story of Cadence & Mark isn't similar.

"this was more than a silly schoolgirl crush. This was a deeply disturbing infatuation"

this quote couldn't be more true. This book was definitely about a disturbing relationship between a teacher and his student. The book felt more Lolita-ish than steamy teacher/ student.

Maybe it would have felt less sexual predator-ish if the POV of Mark was given as well? Nevertheless the tale is told through the eyes of the prey.

The story begins with Cadence starting her senior year of high school after spending ten months in juvie for getting high on cocaine and robbing a convince store. Needless to say Cadence is very immature and her immaturity shines throughout the book. She comes out of juvie and is upset about her living situation because after doing time with the state she has to come home and do more time with her parents. They are untrustworthy of her and thus don't let her drive her car or go on social outings, because of this cadence rebels. She lies to her parents, she lashes out impulsively, and she is constantly struggling with decisions she makes in relation to her "good girl" status.

Cadence isn't a good girl and she made a BIG mistake.

Cadence met Mark and instantly clung to him because he was 'nice' to her and I do feel like Mark took advantage of her broken demeanor. She was an emotionally vulnerable person and Mark used that to his advantage to enter into a relationship he could control. Until it became uncontrollable and he bolted because THINGS got too real. Cadence wasn't mature enough for a relationship with her teacher. She lashed out emotionally and physically throughout the book to proove thus.

I do enjoy stories of this nature but this one was off in regards to NA romance.
reads I'd suggest instead would be

Colleen Hoover- Slammed
Sylvain Reynard - Gabriel's Inferno
Tammara Webber - Easy
Wow. Ok... so....

I must begin by expressing my undying devotion to S. Walden. She's officially one of my all time favorite authors EVER. And I can say that without a doubt, even though this is only the second book I've ever read by this author. Slap her name on the phone book and I'll read it word for word. Some authors just nail it... And she knocked it out of the park with this book.

This book was amazing. Like forgo sleep, abandon all parental responsibility, don't eat, sleep, bathe until the last page kind of GOOD. Amazing.

I love a good story about forbidden taboo relationships. Teacher student relationships are right up my ally. And this one did not disappoint. This book was perfectly written, perfectly told, perfectly perfect perfect in every way.

I adored these characters. Mark had me at Converse and skinny jeans. Cadence was awesome. The dialogue was humorous and smart. I mean SMART. The characters and this story line were so well developed, so layered... the Christianity component to the plot added both complexity to Cadence's personality and an underlying theme of what we think is right and wrong to the whole plot.

I could go on and on about how much I loved this book. The dynamic between cadence and her family, cadence and Avery, cadence and Mark, Mark and his class... not a single criticism can I find. It was all so pitch perfect, spot on.

I laughed. I felt fear for where this could all go. And where it went, I never expected. I loved the build between cadence and Mark. I loved the twists and turns, the heartbreak and the romance and the heat... ooooooh, the heat!

Basically you must read this. And do it now. I want more. I want it yesterday. And I never want it to stop.
I read that this book had good reviews but I was very disappointed with it. No matter if I like a book or not I always read the whole thing because I feel obligated to give it the benefit of the doubt before judging it completely. I think that the entire story was very unrealistic. The characters were a little irritating. And the writing was cliche. Cadence was a really annoying character. With in the first few chapters of the book I realized that she was so overly emotional and cried a lot which was quite irritating. Although her character was 18 I felt like her maturity was not on an 18 year old's level and she reminded me more of a 14 year old girl. Some of the things she would say in the book were so dumb I honestly felt embarrassed for her. I have nothing against her being Christian in the book but I think it was really over played and it became annoying how she would go so far as to ALMOST give the guy a BJ but then while unzipping his pants says "don't use the lords name in vain". The whole devoted Christian thing felt soooo out of place. Moving on to Mr. Connelly (mark). I liked that he was a little dorky but he was also a really annoying character and in the beginning just felt a little creepy. It's hard to explain but the fact that he would go from supper scholarly teacher using bigs words and expressing his love for this girl to all of a sudden cursing and turning into this "I've gotta have you right now" sex hungry guy just didn't fit together. I felt like he had to be either or and the constant change made his character really unbelievable. It was also kind of creepy because he acted more like a father figure then he did a boyfriend/lover. Like making sure your woman is eating properly is great don't get me wrong! But it came to the point where it made me feel like he was her caretaker while she was like this five year old girl who doesn't want to eat her veggies. The whole story was just SO frustrating and the characters were not consistent. Very overly emotional and it just didn't do it for me. I love to read and I'm usually really open minded about books but this one I was just really disappointed with.
I loved it. Definitely the creep factor with age difference in the beginning, but somehow you come to love him. Reading the next one to see how it turns out.
